It's an automatic transmission that allows one to switch to manual in certain situations for greater control of the car.

Okay, I'll break character for this one....
Tiptronic in most new cars simply means you can individually select the gears on an automatic transmission. It is done electronically and rarely allows you to actually hold gear to the red line, the concept on mass production cars is really just a selling point.
Only high-end sports cars (Ferrari, Maserati, etc.) have a true manual "tiptronic" setup, known as sequential gearing. These are often clunky and harsh (given the tranny has a flywheel which has to be engaged with no clutch) just like the race cars which inspired them.
Also, in these cars you will find pulling back on the stick goes up a gear and pushing forward goes down, whereas in most production cars (with a few exceptions) forward is up and back is down.
Again a selling point, as the CPU will usually override any decision on the driver's behalf to drive "dangerously"...

Tiptronic is an auto car which can be semi auto by just moving the gearstick up or down fast without a clutch making for fast gear changes! some have the paddles behind the steering wheel like in an F1 car but there usually expensive, if its just stick type there available in cars like Punto's!

tiptronic allows sequential changes (like in an F1 car).
Some gear sticks are paddles, and others are a normal gearstick, but either way, it speeds up gear changes in racing situations. Completely unnecessary in a road car, but flash mugs with cough up an extra £5000 for it......

It's just a regular automatic transmission that can be shifted between gears manually as well as automatically. There is nothing special about that and if you had it you'd rarely use it -
it's just an additional "feature" to add to the price of the car.

its a semi automatic gearbox, where the clutch is done automatically, and the gear selection is up and down, a bit like a motorbike, either via paddles, or a gearstick
