It's not the voltage that kills ya, it's the current!

Um... what was the question again? I guess not: the police have the duty to use the minimum amount of violence possible to subdue the perpetraitor of a crime. If being tasered was necessary, then hell yeah they should have! The problem with that line of thinking is that in the end, it's the police (collectively and individually) that get to make that decision. "Who guards the guardians" as they say...

Non only was she uncooperative, but later in the video, one of the reasons given to her for getting tazed is that she took a swing at the officer entering from the passenger side of her vehicle. She denies this, but she also denies refusing to put her phone down and get out of the vehicle.

It is difficult to tell whether she did swing at the officer, but she did refuse to cooperate and was belligerent to officers. With the dangers officers face even at what should be simple traffic stops, I don't believe they crossed the line tazing the woman in the SUV.

Before officers carried tazers, their means of subduing a non-cooperative suspect included a baton, a gun, and physical struggle. Use of a baton or gun can cause permanent injury and can be fatal. Physical struggle puts both the officer and the suspect in danger. Used properly, the tazer briefly disrupts voluntary muscle function and is not believed to cause permanent injury (except in rare cases where a pre-existing medical condition exists). The tazer is the most humane weapon widely available to officers for subduing a suspect who is not cooperative.

I would've done a lot more to that lady. She was not respecting the cop's commands, thinking that she is above the law. You have no idea what occured before the tape began. He did the procedure correctly.

She should have obeyed the officers command.

By refusing, she opened herself up to the incident.

Yes.

Always obey an officer's command, even if you think it is wrong, and later protest through appropriate channels if you think the officer was out of line.
