Although I'm a Scotman I geniunly wanted England to do well in the world cup. Unusual I know, but I feel the team were too patriotic and that lead to their downfall. Every match they go into and they treated it like a war, with the players bellowing out their awful national anthem and celebrating with their clenched fists when they scored. I think England have wonderful players, but wish they would be more relaxed, smile a bit more, show off and be less patriotic! Look at the teams that win the world cups - brazil, italy and germany - they go to each match to show off their flair and ability, not to go into a war like rooney and co, kicking the opponents in the balls!

Good luck next time - they'll need it with mclaren as manager!

Okaaaay...just be clear on this I'm not having a go at England - I prefer English football to Scottish and no longer support Scotland with their 'anti-english' attitude. Please no scottish bashing guys, I'm geniunly interested in your opinion and hope you win the next world cup. Now answer my question!

I'd like to know why the fans bother singing the national anthem and rule britannia all the time. Those two songs are fooking shite.

Give me Vindaloo and The Great Escape anyday.

For 'patriotic' read 'jingoistic'.
So many England fans were facing the wrong way hurling racist abuse at the TandT fans at the World Cup that they missed the goal.
These 'best fans in the world' were seething with hatred but Peter Crouch got them smiling again by pulling Brent Sancho's dreadlocks in the act of scoring.
Cheating?
Never heard anything about that on here.
It is not just the Scots. Germans and French threw celebrations when England went out. It put a stop to that sickening arrogance so many little englandshiremen display.
Up yours Nigel!

Yes the team are patriotic but not overly I do`nt think. They are proud to be playing for England I do`nt see anything wrong with that is there, I agree I blame Sven for making some stupid decisions in not only what players he took to which style of play he made them use with Wayne up front on his own for a example. As for what you said about Wayne that was a accident I am sick & tired of saying it. Is anyone going to give Steve McClaren a chance to see what he can do, people were not this nasty when Sven took over and he was not even English, so surely Steve is going to want to win more him being English born & bred.

Patriotic - you have got to understand the meaning of the word. It is not just in the mind but it comes from the HEART!!

Half of the team don't even know the words of the national anthem - let alone show any patriotism!

Beware scotsman praising the English! The scots are the most sickeningly patriotic every time they (rarely) qualify for the world cup and it always makes me laugh when they are usually the first to be thrown out for their appalling play. Read my first sentence again, sour grapes!

As Stewart Pearce used to shout before he emerged from the Wembley tunnell

"REMEMBER ......ABOVE ALL ELSE...... YOU'RE ENGLISH!!!"

Never too patriotic, we qualify more often than some less patriotic and more relaxed nations tee hee
