It is more common the other way around, i.e. they say girl and you have a boy, because the penis is hidden between the legs so the ultrasound tech assumes it's a girl for lack of a better view. But yes I have heard of it happening as you described. The only way 100% accurate way to know what the sex of your baby will be is to give birth and see for yourself! ;)

My ultrasound was accurate, I was told I was having a boy and I did, but the dr. did not give me a "prediction" until I was 19 weeks pregnant... I know that some techs try to give results as early as 12 weeks but it´s very hard to tell, especially because the fetus is so small.
Another thing to consider is that the genitals are swollen and that can sometimes lead the doctor/tech to be confused. To be sure, an ultrasound after 26 weeks can be much more accurate.
And regardless of whether it´s a boy or a girl, the most important thing is to give your baby a loving welcome!

I was real piist off, the tech told me I was having a girl just what I wanted but during my 8 month my stomach was more like long pointed out. everybody told me that I was carry a boy. I ask my Dr. to get another ultrasound, he said if I do I would have to pay out the pocket for. So after I gave birth my boyfriend said it's a boy I yelled out NOOOO!!! But n e ways he was healthy. I just know what ever the tech say not to go 100% with that.

My college roomate's best friend had twin girls, after being told that she was having one little boy.

I think that either she only had one ultrasound done, very early in her pregnancy when the fetus was still teeny-tiny, or she had a very inexperienced ultrasound tech.

My US showed right away that I was having a boy, and my sister-in-law's showed a girl (even though she elected to have a second one to make sure).

NO. I have given birth to 3 boys, & 2 girls.
They were all guessed correctly. There is no way a penis can be thought of as anything else. If a tech or a doctor says that it looks like a penis, and it's not - well, then they have no reason to be in that profession.
And obviously, nothing falls off in utero.

Sure, it happens, but not very often. They are looking at sound waves and it takes a lot of practice to learn how to read those sonograms. So... did they tell you "boy" but you're afraid it might be a girl... or hoping it might be a girl? Or has the baby arrived and you're surprised? Either way, it really doesn't matter. Every child is different and babies are full of surprises, whether they are boys or girls.

A friend of mine was told she was having a little (I mean small) girl and ended up having a very big, well endowed boy.
