LOL...Why is the North divided from the South? Well, in a way, we aren't. Although there are regional politics, it really depends on more than just that. For example, many southern cities are very liberal, while the rural areas are not. It is the same with the North.

We are divided in a way that goes back to the beginning of our nation. The answer is too long for Yahoo Answers.

Southerners have a slower pace of life. I feel this is due to the weather being so hot and sticky. Northerners created the industial era, and has been leaders since...created more jobs, more stress, higher productivity, and less subtle enjoyment. Southerners since taking a slower pace of life, relish in the things that take up time. Courtesy, good cooking, few possesions more joy. etc. The divide can be attributed to many factors, civil war ending with Northerners victorious, industrial revolution, more inventions in the north, perhaps the embrace of new ideas and new order in the north as opposed to the South's endeavor to keep things just like they are with little or no change. Both Northern States and Southern states have thier own pros and cons....but remember...the West is the best!

Southerners are more relaxed and conservative, Northerners are more high-strung and liberal. We're speaking, of course, about the eastern U.S. only.

Don't confuse the morally casual attitude (sometimes morally devoid) of a liberal with being relaxed. 8 of 10 are wired ridiculously tight (the other 2 are hippies & smoke pot all the time thus not wired)

It isn't a division between north & south, it's New England plus NJ & NY versus the rest of us with the exception of the Left coast. The industrial belt states tend democratic but not necessarily liberal - as is the case with PA & OH also.

there has been a decisive difference in the North and south since the 1830s with the birth of organized abolitionist to the North. There is now way in a million years that Northerners will be more relaxed than Southerners with their Bar-B-Ques and beer, however you can say their is a strain of educational differences in both, but their is also different lifestyles based on weather elements as well.

The division is from the fact that by the civil war many in the north wanted a strong federal government and the south wanted strong state government. Some of the same feeling still exist.
The western U.S. not including the west coast is strong for not just state rights, but the right of the individual.

It is a good question you ask. I have thought about all my life why is it a particular area becomes very Liberal in it's thinking as opposed to other areas where they are very conservative and why? Why the netherlands are very Liberal? Why canada turned out to be the liberal place it has become as opposed the USA where it's just this side of an arab nation is it's conservatism. Is it something about the landscape, the air, environment? What?

"relaxed" = "liberal". Another loaded question. The important difference is we know how to make grits and have better looking women.
