depending on the state your from you will need a teaching certificate. Some states who are in dire need of teachers(NV, NC, SC, VA, etc.) will let you teach without a license and at least some credits in education. Although, social studies is such a crowded area already. You will also need to choose a concentration, such as history, geography, econ., etc. Good luck. All in all, you will most likely benefit by enrolling in a college with a social studies education curriculum, you might as well work on for your certificate now, down the road, it will be one less thing you have to worry about. Then you can begin work on your masters!

If memory serves me you need 40 semester credits in a major and 120 total, of which 80 are in academic subjects. You also need some education classes to be a teacher and you have to fullfill the obligations to get a CREDENTIAL for each GRADE LEVEL and each CLASS TYPE that you intend to teach.
Thus you probably need to major in Social Studies and minor in Education.
Then you need to student teach for one or two semesters.
As said, you should talk with an advisor for an exact outline of your future acadmemic requriements to do this efficiently.
If you intend to teach in a different state from your college you need to find out what elements granfather or transfer, othrewise you need to do your creditial work in the state where you intend to teach.

You'll generally need more credits...18-24 depending on the state. Plus, you'll still have to take education courses to get certified. Of course, if you have a college degree and just want to substitute as a social studies teacher, you'll be ready to go in most states.

From a scholar factor of view, I might be extra willing to be a social experiences trainer, seeing that English is obligatory and so that you might get children that might fiddle plenty extra regularly than in social experiences, wherein the scholars have picked the field seeing that they experience it. Both contain marking, nevertheless it particularly will depend on the instructor. My sociology trainer marks our books particularly thouroughly, however my English trainer simply ticks it every now and then. Your proper - the English direction might difference extra, however for social experiences you might have to be up to date with present disorders and debates, so each have their drawbacks... I might opt for the only you're so much excited about and that you simply suppose you would instruct the nice. :)

I would call the state board of education. They would have the exact information that you need to work in that state. Also, they may have some info on alternative certification that may allow you to be in the classroom a lot sooner than you think.

Check with your college and see if there is a program for students who want to teach high school social studies. If you aren't in college yet then check with different colleges and universities to see what would fit the best with your interests. Also, you might want to consider what state you want to teach in.

In most states, you need classes in education and educational theory. I would touch base with an academic advisor at your college or university and see what their particular requirements are.
