If you're talking about the language and culture, then a resounding yes. Italian language and culture is heavily influenced by the Roman Empire, and Latin echoes in most European languages. Spanish culture has some moorish influences, being so close to Africa, but again, both cultures are typically European. Hope I've answered your question!
