I mean if we don't want them to ask questions then maybe we should not have "grown up" conversations around them all the time. I realize that sometimes it can get on our nerves but how the heck are they suppossed to learn if they don't ask?

Now that my kid is an adult, I have to say -- gleefully --- that my rule to never ignore a question or say "because I told you so" turned out be a good one. He was a "genius" in school and quite often was far ahead of the other children in his class regarding knowledge.

I hate when adults ignore children's questions and comments. You are right, how can they learn if they don't ask or listen? I also hate it when an adult makes fun of a child for asking a question or misunderstanding some comment. It's insulting and unnecessary.

Quite often I turn the tables on adults who do this sort of thing. If a child asks a question and the adult shushes them or ignores them I ask the same question, often fairly loudly, then almost demand an answer. I'll preface the question with, "That's a good question, I was wondering the same thing myself." I do this even if I know the answer. Later I will sometimes go an extra mile and tell the adult they're missing an opportunity to both create understanding and show their knowledge when they ignore a child.

Sure, it gets tedious answering children's questions. Some days I'd as soon put my face in a blender as hear another one, yet I answer as best I can. I don't "make up" stuff, either. For one thing, if you answer as if it was a test in college the kids get tired of hearing the answers and tune out faster. Then you get to stop answering because they've become tired of your "real" answers when they just wanted to hear "the stork brings babies". LOL

I agree. Everybody wants kids to learn, be smart, and everybody has high expectations of kids, but how are they supposed to get to that point if they don't learn, and a big part of learning is asking questions about the world, and getting answers from those questions (kinda like how Yahoo Answers works).

But by the same token, if a kid is asking 100 questions an hour............. you get my point.

I am with you. I flat refuse to have Adult conversation when a child is around. My friends who well say anything in front of their kids have problems when they get older. The kids contradict what ever they say and they get upset, sorry you shouldn't be flapping your gums in front of them, PERIOD!!!
