Take some acting classes, do community theater or if you're in school sign up for a school play. Then when you feel ready, start going on auditions for commercials and work your way up from commercials to television or movies. You may eventually need to move depending on where you live now -- there are a lot of opportunities in Hollywood.

Do some community acting as well, this is where you will really hone your skill of dealing with the many different people and their diverse personalities in the real world of performance art. You will need an agent for both screen and stage, they are cheap as long as you remeber that they get paid off of a percentage of your earnings, usually 15%. You must kick in some cash for headshots and some travel from time to time, but if your agent calls you and says he can get you an audition, but it will cost $200.00, fire them on the spot and go find some real representation. You can contact the Sreen Actors Guild and they will give you a list of reputable agents and a list of the low-life pay to act agents.

Look for little auditions and parts you can get, even if their just for music festivals or local shows. (Remember, little jobs all add up in a resume, because it shows that you still have experience) Let the public know your name (in a positive way please) by volunteering and joining choirs and other organizations. If you truly feel ready, then approach a reputable network and submit your resume. You can also get an agent who can find the auditions for you (but remember, agents get a certain percentage of your salary so think before hiring)
