My roommate was from Thailand and had trouble with Chinese; most asiatic languages are very difficult to learn. According to a former French teacher who also spoke Spanish; French is a little easier to learn than Spanish. I personally had more trouble with German than with French.

To correct mkhuisman: Spanish and English do not come from the same root language. English is a Germanic language while Spanish is a romance language (meaning derived from the language of the Romans, which was Latin).

If you live in America learning Spanish might be easier because you have been exposed to it. However, Spanish has a lot of different tenses (present, preterite, imperfect, future...), and french has less. Persian is a somewhat difficult language because there are sounds you have to make iwth your throat that English-speakers do not use. German also seems quite difficult for the same reason. I would go with Spanish because it will be of the most use.

Spanish is the easiest to learn. It has a ton of cognates and the spelling is fairly phonetic. German has been rated the hardest language to learn after Chinese. I have heard it said that French is harder in the beginning because of the spelling but is easier than Spanish in the upper level grammar. I have had no problem with Spanish upper level grammar and I recommend it. Buena suerte.

I speak Spanish and maybe I am bias but I think it is very easy to learn! Simple rules of grammar- for the most part. Also it is very similar to English because they come from the same root language. I recomend it! Good Luck!
