This happened to me. I used a cup to get all the water out and toweled dryed it, so that it would not get mold and mildew in it. Until we can get the pump replaced

Depends how deep is the water level. It is not abnormal to have a small amount in the very base, which helps keep the pump seals and spray wand seals lubricated (they should not dry out.)

But 1" or more of standing water indicates a blockage in the discharge line. Someone said your disposal is blocked - check that first.

Another place to look is for debris blocking the air-gap pipe, which is mounted on your sink. Unscrew the cap and look inside for food or other dishwasher debris and clean it out. If you can turn on your DW and advance the cycle to the point where it pumps out the water (at the end of the first rinse, wash or 2nd rinse cycles), you should see water pumping out of the air gap. Have a towel nearby because the drain pump can generate a strong flow of water.

You also could have a blockage in the other hose from the air gap to the disposal. Gotta remove one or both ends to check and clear that hose.

Good luck.
