Heavy metal is my life, everything you said plus tool, killswitch engage, korn, stone sour, black sabbath, mudvayne, Marilyn Manson the list goes on....

Godsmack is considered heavy metal, garbage like Slipknot and System of a Down are not. Metal is the only music, millions of people grew up on metal, Ozzy, Guns, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest(with Halford), Anthrax, bands such as this is metal. I am old school, and can not understand the appeal of trash music, I enjoy Godsmack, their newest album is excellent, and more bands really need to come at it with their best effort like that, if we are to beat down the "boy bands" and the "(c)rap" and "Britney". Velvet Revolver is also an excellent band, their newest album should be coming out soon. Think Guns N Roses without AXL, great band.

I love heavy metal, but I don't really consider System of Godsmack metal. I would go more along the lines of Korn, Mudvayne, Killswitch Engage, Fear Factory, Dimmu Borgir(more death metalish), Chimaira, Ill Nino, Lamb of God......Tool is also great but they aren't heavy metal.

Me. I saw Slipknot, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Marilyn Manson, and Black Sabbath at Ozzfest a few years back. AWESOME!!!

P.s How can the geezer above said that S.O.A.D are garbage & then say guns r roses - velvet revolver are great???? Very old school.
It is better to appreciate a range of music than to stick to old faithfuls. It is not often that excellent bands are produced so you have to learn to expand your musical tastes. We all have mellow moments when we need to stop headbanging for a day or two.

They're all dreadful these days. Metal peaked around 1978 and has gone downhill ever since.
Motorhead still rock harder than any of the bands you mention though.......

as for me I like slipknot, but I like bands like Nightwish, Therion, Wintersun, and Charon more

i think every kind of metal is awesome, it just depends on the band to make it good. mostly though thrash metal and nu metal.
