Well,it's not going to be long now.The US backed Israelis are having a major go at Hezbollah, who are backed by Syria and Iran.Everyone in the west wants to have a go at Iran, they have been instrumental in world terrorism since 1979.
When the Syrians and the Iranians hve been sucked into the 'Israeli' war then the Americans have the perfect excuse to retaliate against them. It's all global control of oil and now with the forward fire base of Iraq, the United States have airbases, artillery positions and troop massing areas.
Please tell me, that they don't think that the rest of the world is as stupid as they are.
I'm English,Blair is an asshole and we don't buy it! you wait and see, this is just the start of 'the big one'.

In 1939, the prime minister at the time ,Neville Chamberlain met Hitler. They signed a non aggression pact and Hitler assured Chamberlain there would be no war.The rest is history. For those of you that think 'it'll never happen to me' then you not only have a very poor grasp of history, but you are deluding yourself. The same way people said 'there'll be no war' in 1939.It's started,be ready.

Cliffpots..your statement ,and I quote 'After the initial bloodshed, everyone will be patriotic or dead.' Is exactly what happens in every war. That's how people are.
do you think that the Lebanese people feel the same way about the Israelis that they did three weeks ago? Of course not, people want to survive, they stick together to survive, and they fight the perceived 'common enemy'. They want a war,and they seem hell bent on starting one.Why are British forces in Afghanistan? Literally no one in this country(Britain) wants them there, they are there because it's another strategic position to strike into the middle east.

I will apologize up front that this is a long answer, but it addresses what is happening and where we are heading.
I find some of the answers you have got in response to this to be interesting. I always find it bewildering that people find the dynamics so illusive.
There are many factors that have to be taken into account.
First look at the patterns in history. While the events never repeat the patterns do. These are the patterns.
War of the Roses, 1459 - 1487, Civil War
Armada Crisis, 1569-1594, International War
Glorious Revolution, 1675 – 1704, Civil War
American Revolution, 1773 – 1794, Civil War
US Civil War, 1860 – 1865, Civil War
Great Depression/World War II, 1929 – 1946, International War
The US Civil War of 1860 was triggered prematurely by religious zealousness in the United States. This is a key to understanding the turning that is understated by Strauss and Howe.
All of this is covered in The Fourth Turning by Strauss and Howe in 1997. http://www.fourthturning.com
Howard, if WW III (as we call it here) comes, we will lose 3% to 4% of the globes population. That comes to approximately 150 Million people. In the US we will lose in the neighborhood of 14 Million alone. Just to let you know I am not cavalier about this, I and my children will be in the category of the honored dead because we live very close to a Strategic Target. With the economy so poor in the US right now there is not allot I can do about it.
The real key to the situation is not in the Middle East. It is the situation with North Korea, Japan, and oddly enough Venezuela. If Japan decided to do something about North Korea's missiles, then the US will back the Japanese. If we do that the Chinese will have to back the North Koreans. Due to a recent pact with the Chinese, the Russians will have to come to the aid of China.
The old eastern block nations will come to the US aid and tie up Russia in a ground war. The EU will sit out as long as they can because they do not have the youth populations to mount a substantial force.
Your nation, England, will back the US. So will the majority of the commonwealth. You will fair much better then the US will.
At this point, however, it can still break toward a series of Civil Wars as the people decided that they don’t care for the direction which their respective governments are taking them.
The one gal who said people are not patriotic any more is right, but in this day and age of a two week war, it will not take many people to participate in the war. After the initial bloodshed, everyone will be patriotic or dead.

You watch way too much TV turn it off and go outside for a walk. The countries that are at war have been at war for sometime for reasons related to their countries ethnicity, religion and political choices. The world does not want to go to war it will not happen because of people like Kofi An nan and Pope Benedict so have some faith, for all of the evil in the world there is by far more good in the end good always wins out.

Yes Yes Yes, alright. You don't say who's side you are on, and you sound a little hysterical. Your question is framed like an impartial commentary. It is vital for the west to secure future oil supplies, so I don't understand why people throw out the accusation, " It's all about oil". Yes, well not quite, I think that there could be another variable in the equation. That is, the need to distract the mind of the American and British public from the seriousness of their fiscal and trade deficits, not to mention personal debt. The problem has reached crisis proportions: too late and too large to present to the American public, who would not be prepared to make the required sacrifices to put the problem right. Hey Ho, middle east, or perhaps, global warming. Something big anyway.

I hope your view is not that of the leaders around the world. The problem is nucks are deterrents. They should make sure we do not have an all out www3. The lack of intellect in the Blair government means we could be dragged into more problems. I cant see the heavy boy Dave do any better. He would want us to kiss a terrorist. Politicians cause wars not the people they represent. That's what needs to be changed.

Actually, it's not about global control of oil at all. Arabs and Jews (Israelis) have been fighting forever. I mean it-for centuries. Since before the time of Christ, they have been at each other's throats. Oil plays such a tiny role in it all that it doesn't bare mentioning.
It's already begun. We are not on the brink of WW3, we are in it. And our enemy is radical Islam. If we don't go defeat them where they are, they will come here-in fact, they are already here. We are going to defeat them, or our way of life is going to cease to exist.
But I think a great many people view this the way they view a football or baseball rivelry. It's our team against theirs no matter what. It's going to be our undoing.

You do realise that the war is already being fought with the major powers using the smaller ones like pawns in a chess game, Try to find a time when there wasn't a war in this world i dont think you will find it easy mores the pity.

its not going to happen....the people of this world are less patriotic and more independent
the greatest war would be one of the people protesting! most would rather have blair assassinated than have this country enter into such a war!
i dont believe it would happen! i think you are being overly pessimistic, war is disgusting but RELATIVELY small (dont misinteprete that as without the relative) there is no reason why many other countries would become involved...i doubt that a problem in such countries as those described would encourage ww3...no offence to them but its unlikely
