It is probably not possible to boycott a company as large as they are, but the profit results they posted today made me sick.

I spoted this boycott pettition online and was wondering if anyone else had seen it:

I didn't realize that this was going to become an issue on TAXES. However, a point well made. If you like intelligent talk on tax issues, take a look at this:

Thank you.

no I didn't see it but thank -you for making me aware of it. I already passed it on to 2 others. Now do I think that a boycott will work against Exxon? Not really . But it does get the word out and it lets our reps know that we r looking at them epically before the up coming election.

almost everyone in this country either directly or indirectly owns exxonmobil stock. so when you are all happy that you are getting a pension or that your mutual fund went up, its because companies like this one are profitable.

what should really make you sick is how stupid we all are by burning so much fossil fuel every day. the true cost of using gasoline is between $10 and $15 per gallon. most of the cost is subsidized by taxes like your income tax.

do the simple math:
federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon
average person drives 12000 miles/year
average gas mileage 20 mpg

12000/20 = 600 gallons usage
600 gallons x 18.4 cents = ~$110 year

$110 dollars a year!?!?! are you kidding me? think of how much money must be spent to support this! military dollars, highway dollars, other infrastructure, increased health care, environmental costs.

now think about this-how much did you pay in federal income tax last year? if you are relatively average and made lets say $50,000 - you probably paid $10,000 in federal income tax. think about this-you paid $100 federal gas tax and $10,000 in federal income tax. do you think it would make sense to increase the gas tax and decrease the income tax an equal amount? why do we tax something that we want people to do (work) so much? why do we tax something we dont want people to do (burn fossil fuels) so little? we subsidize the burning of fossil fuels with our income tax.

you should be angry about socialized gasoline. it is made cheap for everyone, so everyone uses way too much, and the oil companies make lots of money. the sad thing is, people who hate us and want to kill us make MUCH more money than the oil companies. raise the gas tax, lower the income tax, your total tax remains the same, BUT oil companies make less money, AND more importantly, people who want to kill us make less money. please direct your efforts towards fixing the problem, not towards creating a bigger problem. please?
