Scientifically the best way to fix depression is to increase the serotonin in your brain. Which can be done by spending a lot of time in the sun. If you aren't against herbal remedies you could try B12 which helps increase serotonin.

A good friend to talk to, a good serving of logic, and a bit of confidence provided by a new hobby worked for me.
Also, helping people who need help. A good deed can give you a real boost. The next best thing is doing something out of the ordinary to keep busy that also teaches you about yourself.
I mean, I still have to deal with it. Don't expect to be pure happiness manifested in human form.
But, if you outsmart it and accomplish your goals, what should you be depressed about?

For me, its music. I like listening to the funky tunes and it brightens up my day in no time. You could do something you've really wanted to do. Like if you wanted to get that new CD, then go ahead. You can treat yourself to a relaxing day at the spa or go on a shopping spree. Do the things you like doing.
If that doesn't work, then do those things wil your friends and family. Go shopping as a group or organize some fun family outings. Another great cure for depression is to surround yourself with good people whom you can be assured love you and care about you. Remember, no one has to go through depression alone.

Exercise will help, but I would suggest a change in lifestyle. Maybe a new job, or a new place to live. I think the best thing would be a new start.

Exercise. At least twenty-thirty minutes a day. It works your mind and body. I think it has something to do with the chemicals in your brain being stirred up. Also, when your bod looks good, it makes you feel happy, go figure.

There are many options including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, etc. I suggest going to your doctor because he may have a therapist to refer you to who you can speak with and decide if their therapy option is right for you. If it's not, the therapist will have names of other therapists with other various therapy options. Don't worry, for depression there are lots of options! You just need to get your foot in the door to get a variety of options.
