The whole family were in absolute turmoil. In Regency times the fact that a young unmarried woman had run off with an officer with a bad reputation brought dishonour on the whole family. It meant that they would all be "outside" polite society now. So the family was distraught .. Mrs Bennett now believing, quite rightly, that her other daughters' chances of procuring good marriages was nil.

Elizabeth, herself, thought that she had seen the last of Mr Darcy - for she considered he was too proud to consort with a family of "ill-repute". And, the truth is, he couldn't have married her if Lydia and Wickham continued to live in sin. This is why he arranged for their marriage and future financial security.
