An experienced politician like Annan did the following:
1-Condemned Israel for the hit...good call
but later he
2-Condenmed only the attack and took out the word Israel from the paragraph...wuss??
but even later he
3-Wiped out the whole paragraph...Thats exactly what the world needs in a Secretary General of the UN!!!

I guess none of the answers actually address your question. You can't blame them!!
One of them don't even "get" what you want. If you don't get it, don't answer it. Simple enough???!!!!

Mr Mark, China just froze the Iran nuclear file because of the UN decision. Did you know that? I bet you didn't!!

Guys...and girls, please just listen to the news...you don't even have to read books ;)

To answer the question:
Kofi Annan had too much pressure from the US. Very soon his days at the UN will be over so he wants some friends!!
SPLAT's answer makes sense too!!

First of all Kofi Annan is not a Head of State, he is an administrator for the member states of the UN. He has no authority to publicly condemn any sovereign nation and his doing so is merely gibberish. Without a resolution he has no voice other than his own personal opinion and you know how much weight personal opinion holds.

1. Israel's Mossad knows the whole truth about the illegal and immoral dealing of the UN and the Annan family. He is afraid that if he is too tough on Israel he will be exposed for the thief that he is.

2. Mossad also knows where he lives.

Peacekeeper or not, you can't plant yourself in the middle of a war zone and assume you will be safe. If they were near a Hezbollah position, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As it was, Israel said it was a mistake, they apologized and Annan excepted.
I think his initial condemnation and jumps to conclusion were his bigger fault, but I agree, he is a wuss, a corrupt wuss at that.
