Anyone who grew up around a lake, do you remember what the water tastes/smells like? I grew up on the lake, and now need those sensory memories for a descriptive paper. I know lakes have that distinctive "lake" smell, and the water tastes like... the lake.. but what is that?

My family got our water out of a lake for over 20 years, we had it tested about 10 years ago to make sure it was still safe and it tested cleaner than our artisian well which we had drill because our lale water line would freeze in the winter. It always tasted clean and cold.

A lot depends on what lake you are drinking out of. The vegetation, depth, clarity and temperature of the lake all have a major effect on the taste of the lake water.

A deep crystal clear, glacier fed lake high in the Rockies will taste much different than a shallow, weed-choked muddy lake in southern Florida.

There really isn't a set taste for water aside from salty and the crap that is mineral water. You don't have to describe the water's taste to get a point across any way. Describe how the person I assume that is imbibing it feels when it drinks it. You know like the water left them refreshed or rejuvinanted. Something like that.

My mother once tried to make vegetable soup. The problem was the vegetable's had gone a bit bad and to make things worse there was no salt to make up for flavor. That's what a lake tastes like. A salt-less soup made from vegetables that were fresh last week.

Lake water tastes very good, don't drink from the surface though. Could be insects. It is very soothing when fishing waist high when outside temperatures exceed 105 degrees.
