in terms of quality of play?

NOPE! Everyone have to agree that Italy and France in the final are UNEXPECTED. They've both played poorly during the qualifying rounds... esp. Italy ( I mean, hello, us dumb Americans even get even with Italy... and Italy won the final... how's that even possible, oh yeah, that's right.. PKs... f- that). I personally think that Italy was unworthy of the winning, the cup should'd gone to France if Italian players did not PURPOSELY injuried essential French players: Viervia, Henry, and Ribery... and esp. kicking Zidane out of the game. Italy really cheated their winning title. sorry... off topic. But, this year's WC, there's just too much scandals, physical fights against oppoents... you have Rooney's incident of stumping on someone's private area; Materazzi who deserved the headbutt from Zidane for constantly insulting him, which is degrading soccer; the URK vs. ITA and NED vs. POR were both beat the crap out of each other. Who cares about it... what's done is done. Everyone should expect what will happen in WC 2010.

ps. EURO 2008 and WC 2010's winner will be Germany!!!

Well, I'm from Argentina, so there are few (if any) World Cups worse than 2002 in my book. There was a sad lack of goals and attacking football in this Cup, but at the same time some of the games were super exciting and well worth the four year wait, like Argentina-Mexico.

this WC rocked then 2002 well because many teams in the Caribbean were able to make their first appearance at the world cup. I got to see great teams coming out of Africa, like Ghana, Togo, Angola.

Quality of play, yes, but this has been a cursed WC for me. Every team that I wanted to win, lost.

This years world cup was rubbish. Had Nigeria and Cameroon made it to Germany then there would of been more quality games overall. There was probably only half a dozen decent games at this world cup.

I enjoyed 2002 much more overall, but the Germany / Italy match in this years tourney was one for the ages.

2002 was way better, oliver kahn was outstanding and fun to watch, and brazil was superb. a lot of teams this year were getting it done without much quality play. effective, yes, but not dazzling.

yes!! It's been much better! The last one was really stupid. Some of the worst teams went up.

This one was just so much better and the teams who really deserved it came up and of course ITALY won! YAY!!!
