Well everyone plays football and baseball. But it is more popular in America since we're good at it. There's a reason a lot of people don't like soccer or hockey (because we stink at it). That's why their not that popular. And yes Craig S, a lot of people play the sports and we play others, but she's talking about the popularity of them in America.

Same with other countries. Canada only gets geared up about hockey really. Australia about Aussie Rules footy. New Zealand about rugby. So what's your point?

By the way, not only the USA plays baseball. The following nations do too--Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. There are more that paly such as Australia, South Africa, Holland, Italy, etc. but the first lot are where baseball is #1...(#2 in Mexico overall).

I think I get your point... We do seem to be a bit elitist when it comes to our sports. However, I don't know of any sport that we're the only country to play. Using just the four "major" U.S. sports of baseball, football, basketball and hockey, it's well known that a lot of other countries play baseball and basketball, while Canada and parts of Europe play football, and a bunch of European countries play hockey... Obviously these four sports are considered more "American" than others since we invented them, but one of the main reasons we probably don't embrace other sports is because we just don't care. We have so many other things to occupy our time and energy, so most of us don't waste the time on games we don't have enough knowledge about...

What an idiotic question.

The U.S. was one of the 32 nations to compete in the recent World Cup of soccer. Last time I looked, other countries played soccer.

The U.S. competes in every major basketball and hockey tournament in the world, and they do pretty well for themselves. Again, last time I looked, other countries competed in those events.

In the 2004 Summer Olympics, U.S. athletes won medals in track and field, basketball, boxing, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, martial arts, wrestling, canoeing, equestrian sports, and tennis. Of those sports I've listed, can you tell me how many only Americans play? Could the number be zero?

What is it with the European morons on here who are so jealous of American achievements in sports that they feel the need to post such stupid questions? America is the best sports country in the world - by far, and as a Canadian I have no problem admitting that. It's just too bad so many Euros and others are too blind to see that.

we dominate the summer olympics every 4 years in a variety of sports the entire world plays. and didn't an american just win the british open last weekend? if we're the only country that plays golf, why do they have a BRITISH open? we also just won the softball world cup 2 weeks ago, and haven't americans won the last 8 tour de france's? are americans the only ones who race in the tour de france? the only sport that we DON'T excell at is soccer, and that's only because we don't give a sh*t about it.

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that's common around the world...

For example; I don't think many people in Ghana follow Major league baseball or the NFL...

I don't think many people in Great Britan follow the NHL....

Seems like the rule rather than the exception.
