I'd say it certainly helps. But, for my own personal amusement, I like to compare eccentricity and crazyness as such: I say, the only difference between an eccentric and a crazy person is the money. Any average person can be crazy...but then if they win the lottery and have MILLIONS *mwaahaahaa*, they turn into eccentric. Because people don't like to call rich people crazy, so they soften the blow to eccentric. *smile*

Eccentricity is not essential for creativity. Although people who tend to have both and have a little bit of intelligence might be able to use them in a way where they will show their talent of creativeness and they style of eccentricity. Creativeness comes from your inner imagination and you show it on your outer realization. Eccentricity is just a way of overlapping styles.

For those that have eccentricity I'd recommend to know how to use it and for those who have creativeness I'd recommend to use it to its full potential.

To some extent, yes, some eccentricity is involved in being creative. According to the legend, artists, writers, in particular, are crazy to some point, they have something that's not right with them. And in some weird way, that unrightness helps them in beings creative. I don't understand why, but that is how I hear it.

The fuel for the fire that we call creativity is an innate ability to think outside the box. Creative people can be eccentric or maddeningly normal on a superficial level, but when probed, are naturally able to think and problem solve using methodology that many would find unorthodox.

eccentric, literally means "running off-center". Eccentricity helps in providing unexpected innovations to your project. However, if you get too far "out there", then you're not communicating with anybody anymore. So, what you consider "genius" could be picked up by the people you're working for/with as "affectation". You have to be able to bring your eccentric ideas into production, or you're just spinning beautiful but useless webs in your own little world.

I think it's more likely to be the reverse;that creativity will lead to eccenticity. If you think and do in a creative way, that is not the way society accepts you are seen as being eccentric.

No. Its usually the other way around--that is, creativity is necessary for eccentricity. As my Dad used to say "You have to know where the circle is before you can be eccentric".

Where is it carved in stone this is a prerequisite? Popular culture? The media? Publications put out by hack opportunists? Let's take a step back. Painting. Not everybody can do it. Your marbles better be in the right configuration or you will produce stuff people will ask:

" I don't know what 'e got for that painting; but he shoulda got life! "
