Knowing full well that the investigation and trail of Steven Lawrence's murderers was corrupt, surely they can now be put back on trial and finally locked up for what they did...
It's the problem with today's society! It makes people afraid to tell the police of serious crimes so that the law is in the criminals hands...

I'm modifying my question...forget double jeapordy.

Can't we just bang them up, the evidence against the thugs is overwhelming.

If justice was truely going to be served then yes they would be.

Everyone knew it was those scum bags, it is as obvious as the nose on your face! I feel for the family how frustrated must they feel knowing the police won't even help them!

Is it any wonder why this country has no faith in our Police or Justice system!!!!!!

The reason there is a law protecting against double jeopardy is to protect the innocent. Unfortunately it has to do so at the expense of properly prosecuting the guilty.

If you are a person of faith, you will know that they will get their just rewards. If you aren't and you just want to go bash their heads in, how does that make you better than other killers, they often think they have justification too?

Although I believe that there are many cases
where "double jeopardy" lets innocent guys go
free, I think we do need SOMETHING in place
to prevent the State from continually prosecuting
and re-prosecuting someone.

Double Jeopardy prevents the state from
simply "tying" a person up in court.

How would you prevent this abuse?

Personally, I think allowing a overly prosecuted
underly convicted person to sue for malicious
prosecution should be sufficient - and that would
allow us to ditch the Double Jeopardy laws.

The double jeopardy rule has already gone, couple of years back.

Besides, if the police could sort their act out they could probably use the same evidence to convict on another charge. Al Capone went to prison for not declaring his income to the taxman.
