Well, when I think and when I wake up I know that I exist. Every time I wake up, I know am not dead...and so am alive, meaning I exist.

One answer to the question of knowledge i.e., how we may know that we exist, is the concept encapsulated in the saying by Renee Descartes "I think, therefore I am." Thinking involves the use of a brain to cognitively recognise things that appear as a result of our physical senses. We see, we touch, we smell, we hear and we taste. But thinking also involves something else. It also involves self consciousness. In order to think our brain needs to function to be able to recognise the world around us through our five senses. But it also must be able to be aware that we are experiencing ourselves and the outside world through these senses and through the thing we call self consciousness. We are aware of ourselves and our actions and how we interact with the stimuli that we receive through our senses.

In other words, the fact that we have a brain large enough to become aware of the world around us, and to be aware of ourselves observing it, is what thinking is all about and that is what Descartes is saying is the evidence of our existence. Thinking is, itself, evidence of existence. "I think" (that is I can perceive an existence outside myself through my five senses) "therefore I am" (that is I am aware of my perceptions through my five senses and I am aware that I am aware) This is thinking and if you can do this you must exist.

I don't actually know if I really exist in this physical form...I do know that my essence exist...otherwise how is it exactly are we talking? If you ask that question...Does your question really exist....It's your perception... That's the beauty of philosophy

I don't, really. I believe I do, but I have no real way of proving it. To live my life, I have to operate on the assumption that I do indeed exist.

We don't know.
We exist in a figment of our imagination.
We exist because we believe we do.
