I notice this the most when I am backing out of a parking place w/ wheel slightly to the right. Once enough room to turn the wheel right to pull through the parking space performing a "u" turn. There is a loud pop from the right front , and sometimes enough to actually shake the suv.

It is most likely the ball joint. You should have a mechanic check it out.

My guess would be tie rods or ball joints. Take it to a shop and get it checked out.
