If you want a unique experience and like ethnic food I highly recommend the Ethiopian district on Fairfax ave between San Viecente and Pico south of LACMA area. Merkato is the best and the most inexpensive on the row. Lunch is usually a good deal with all of the restaurants there- If you are vegan Raheals is great, even if you are not too.

Another Eithopian restaurant on Fairfax, Nyala (across the street from the others mentioned) has a good weekday lunch buffet. Rahel was fun because I ate my entire lunch using the injera bread served along side the meal as the utensil (they offer flatware, too).
