My friends and I, all Twins fans, discussed this and all but one would not trade Liriano. I am curious to see what other Twins fans, Cardinals fans, or other baseball fans would say.

The question is, would I trade the best hitter in baseball for a rookie pitcher with 13 starts this season.. No - No and heck NO..The Yankees answered that question best when they took a super star pitcher named Babe Ruth and made him a full time Right Fielder...And, Babe Ruth was a super star pitcher not a rookie, thus proving an everyday great hitter beats a once every 4 days great starter... Of course that was back when starting pitchers actually did start every 4th day now it's every 5th day and maybe 32 starts a year...

Pujols is almost a sure thing great hitter for the next 10 to 12 years. Pitchers have had 6 years to figure out how to get Albert out and still aren't having much success. Liriano looks good but, lets see what the next couple of years brings. He has a huge advantage right now in that the hitters haven't seen him much. lets see what happens when teams get a look at him 3 or 4 times.

I wouldn't trade Pujols for Santana and Nathan so why would I trade him for a Rookie?

Pujols career
BA-332 OB%-419 SLG-630 HR-234
There are only 3 men in the history of basball who have hit .330+ with an OB% of 400+ and SLG of 600+ for their career. That would be Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ted Williams. Not bad company !

No Francisco Liriaano Is Doing Good For The Twins Like Albert Pujols Is Doing Good For The Cards

No way, great pitchers are always better than great hitters, and harder to find as well. Heck, remember brady anderson had a 50 homer season, as did luis gonzalez, people that nobody pays attention to at all, one is out of the league, the other has like 9 homeruns on the year. Liriano will be an awesome pitcher for years to come. Keep the threesome of liriano, santana, and nathan, and that's some awesome pitching right there.

Pujols is the best player in baseball currently, and when it is all said and done, he will be among the top 5 players EVER. Liriano is a rookie, and while he's having a great year, there is no way to know what will happen next year with him. Look at Prior or Wood, if you don't believe me. They were also dominant early in their careers, but they are basket cases now.

A former Cardinal player and current broadcaster said it best: "Players like Pujols don't come along once in a lifetime . . . players like Pujols NEVER come along."

And one more thing . . . it's incredibly unfair to compare Pujols to Brady Anderson, Luis Gonzalez, or Richie Sexon. Pujols has put up MVP numbers since HIS rookie year . . . he's only won one because of Bonds.

I'm a brewers fan man, so i'm not biased here. Um, Liriano is only a rookie, but really what pitcher is good from year to year, the only one i know is clemens. You know the same thing happened with ben sheets this year, he was sent on assignment and came back horrible. Pujols is good every year but he is never going to be traded unless you have something like a richie sexson trade, where you get 50 different players through all these sub-trades from that trade.

I wouldn't. "Good pitching always beats good hitting". Francisco Liriano has a very bright carerr ahead of him, and trading him would be a huge mistake. He is 100% dominant, while Pujols is not quite as dominant. Besides, the Cardinals wouldn't trade Pujols for Barry Bonds.

yes.....and heres why...........albert is 26 and still very young, and about to hit his prime.....secondly the twins have decent young bats (morneau, cuddyer, kubel, mauer--mauer is a star but not in the pujols way, bartlett), but no star really unless you count morneau. Albert would provide that star offenisve power. Thridly the twins have no minor league bats at all- zero (maybe alex romero but thats a reach), while they have the best pitching farm system in the entire MLB. They have glen perkins, anthony swarzak, the injured jay rainville, boof bonser, scott baker, matt garza-- their best prospect period, adam harben, and the lights out kevin slowey-------out of those guys they need to fill 4 rotation spots and out of those 8 very good prospects 4 can certainly fill the void.......their pitching is their stregth so they should play on it. trading liriano or santana for albert to fill the only need they have thats keeping them from being a totally complete team.

thats a horrible trade. Pujols is the best hitter in baseball, Liriano is no where near the best pitcher.

No way!!! Albert is one of the best players in the league and had a solid career. Liriano is a rookie pitcher! A ROOKIE pitcher! I have seen may rookies start out amazing and then fall off.

Yes. Pujols has showed over many years he is a great ballplayer. Liriano is a rookie and can bee derailed easily. This trade would benefit both teams
