1. I try to exercise or at least take a short walk, right as soon as I get out of bed. This seems to jump-start me. And I've also found that hitting the "snooze" button on my alarm clock, even once, makes me feel less energetic after I get up.
2. I eat my massive dose of carbs early for breakfast. That way they will slowly burn all day, and won't metabolize into fat (like they will if you eat lots of carbs for dinner).
3. I try to tire myself out right before bed. Since I don't always get 8 solid hours of sleep, it's important to be very tired when you go to bed so that the sleep you do get will be good sleep. Quality, not quantity. And make sure you say to yourself over and over again about what time you want to wake up in the morning. I've found that I can set an "internal alarm clock" this way that will cause my sleep cycle to end at a convenient time. It's best not to "rip yourself out of bed."
4. Try to stay optimistic throughout the day and think in positive terms. Pessimism and negativity will drain your energy like you wouldn't believe. And try to always look forward to something. And don't think you just don't have anything to look forward to. For example, if there is a task you're dreading doing, look forward to having it done. If you're feeling sick, look forward to getting better. It's always possible to think positive, you just have to put things in a different context. I've found that when I do this, I'm much more motivated and energetic.
5. If you smoke, seriously consider quitting. Smoking is a HUGE energy drain. If you're not going to quit, try to at least cut back to 5-6 cigarettes a day or less.
6. I will occasionally have a cup of coffee or tea, but I am very conservative about this. You don't want to start leaning on caffeine too heavily. Remember; it doesn't actually give you energy. It just stimulates your adrenal glands. So, if you drink too much of it it will backfire and make you more tired. I only use coffee to get an extra boost of energy when I really need to be alert and awake for a particular purpose.
7. Try to drink 8 glasses of water. If you aren't thirsty for 8 glasses of water, you aren't active enough. And also try to stay away from soda.
Hope that helps.....

Just recently started working out and taking a vitamin supplement and eating right. I've actually almost completely cut caffene out of my diet and it's been great. I was taking in a TON of caffene and it made the tiredness worse. Workout every other day, eat right, get enough sleep...I've never felt more energized :)

4 Cups of coffee ... with 3 16 oz glasses of H2O.
1 Latte (SF Hazelnut) ... with 2 15 oz glasse of H20.
It seems that if I don't drink the water with the coffee, then it doesn't circulate, and then I just get sleepy. Alcohal is the same way ... I can't drink without washing it all down with water or I'll get sleepy.

I just continue to do things that need to be done until I get tired, then I take a break and go right back to it. That way you stay energized all day.
