They would declare peace and then sit around a campfire singing songs and talking out their problems with terrorists who want to kill them anyway because they have beliefs different than their own.

I am wondering if you can ever ask a question without insults. But I'll answer your question.
I think the Israelis were right in fighting back....uhoh....I support what you support. Better shoot yourself now, you're thinking like a lefty. I'm thinking like an American.
Our response after 9/11 was justified...when we went to AFGHANASTAN! Remember Osama Bin Laden? He's the guy who really was responsible. But I guess as our fearless prez says, we're "not really concerned about him right now."
Our military is the greatest on this planet. And the moment we pulled forces out of Afghanastan and invaded Iraq, the greatest military on Earth was put to poor use. We should have waited until we got Bin Laden back for the terror he put this country through, and then went to Iraq if we needed to do so.
There you have it. And those are the views of a lot of us "tree huggers." By the way, you should like the trees too. They do provide some of the oxygen you breath in every day.

The Middle East conflict all originated at the formation of Israel. After WW2, the land that would be Israel was decided by the victorious Allies. Many, if not all, of the countries in the Middle East were not able to voice their options on that matter. Thus, to many Arabs, the country of Israel is illegitimate.

What the Israelis should do then, is difficult. It is impossible for them to give up their land. However, violence is not a good idea because it breeds more violence. There are UN resolutions to protect Israel but many of them are not enforced strong enough to do much of anything. Enforcing those resolution might be a good short-term solution.

The way to stop the violence is not to use violence, but to use peace. I know, peace is hard, almost impossible in this region.

The best thing Israel can do, I think, is to do what Jesus said: love your enemies, turn the other cheek. I know, it's wussy behavior but I think it's the best solution given all the violence and hate.

Israel could help it's neighbors by opening up and giving aid as if it were themselves. They could destroy the barriers separating Israel and Gaza Strip along with other areas. Sure, suicide bombers and attacks against Israelis would increase greatly, but the world would know that it isn't Israel's fault and the Arab world would see the Israelis in a whole different light. Despite taking all these casualties, if Israel opens up to the Arab world and it's long enemies and treat them as themselves, eventually, there would be peace in the Middle East. Very risky, but it might work.

I've never hugged a tree. Splinters suck.

Israel should take responsibility for its actions once in a while instead of playing the role of perpetual victim.

The attack on Afghanistan was pointless. The only thing that happened to the Afghanis was an even exchange of thugs; the old thugs for some new ones. And now Afghanistan is yet again a dictatorship. Oh, and Osama bin Laden is still free as a bird.

The military has its uses. One of them isn't to support the Bush administrations plan of nation building. Iraq is now a cluster **** and the Taliban is on the rise again in Afghanistan. Good job, George.

Having looked at your statements in your profile, I wonder if you will give any thought to the responses you receive here. But, in hopes you may...

As a far left tree-hugger, I have to believe that humans must eventually evolve beyond "might makes right." With 7 billion people on the planet, and technology capable of destroying ourselves in any number of horrific ways, that evolution is critical to our survival.

While we talk about ending violence and seeking diplomatic solutions to world problems, we appear to have made very little progress in that direction. For every government in power that embraces peaceful solutions, another exists that is more than willing to bomb the crap out of any country who opposes them in any way.

I hear many proponents of the Iraq war saying that it is necessary to show anyone who opposes us that we're the strongest, and we aren't afraid to use our military strength. Similar justifications were offered for Nagasaki. With the precedents we have established, I very much doubt such proof is required. It's far more likely that those who choose to fight us despite our power do so because they believe they face destruction at our hands. Given our willingness to kill, it's hard to fault their rationale.

Our response after 9/11 was to start a war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. To the rest of the world, that makes us look like we're crazy, giving other countries even more reason to worry about the way we will use our strength in the future. Possibly against them.

If we lived in ancient times, when war was its own justification, there would be no need to have ethical reasons to attack others. "Because we don't like them" or "because we can," or "we want their land" would suffice. But, in today's global environment, everything we do impacts other countries. We have to begin to behave in a responsible manner, or accept that a downward spiral to a catastrophic war is inevitable.

If you are Christian, you probably already believe such a war is inevitable, may even welcome it. Therefore, there is no reason to want to moderate destructive behaviour.

To answer the Israel part of your question, I think Israel should withdraw, announce a new policy of peace, and give back the disputed territories. Then, if the attacks against Israel don't stop, Israel has some justification for further action. Right now, they don't. They have engaged in so-called preemptive wars too often to be able to believably claim their survival depends upon it. I think they will receive wide support if they demonstrate they actually do respect Arab nations. Mine included.

The use for a military should be to have it if you need it, but use it as little as possible, not at all if you can. All the aggression we contain can be channelled constructively elsewhere. That's another conversation.

I thought our response sucked against "terrorism"!

As far as Israel, they reponded when attacked, and are going after real terrorist. I support their response!

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with oil.

The use of the military for corporate gain is as low as you can go! Bush is a draft dodging, war criminal, and he will be tried as such.

Talking about making mountains out of mole hills!

This is how concerned your deserter is!

"So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him... We haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."
—Bush, answering a question about Osama bin Laden at a March 13, 2002 news conference.

I don't have a problem with what they're doing, but I don't think the US should be involved one bit. They wanted to move in there, they can deal with being surrounded by enemies.

Our response after 9/11 was completely ridiculous. Going after bin Laden is one thing, but tangenting off on some of daddy's unfinished business in Iraq was the wrong thing to do.

I personally think that the Israelis should leave the Palestinian people alone! "How dare they enslave people who were born free"! This will be the start of world war 3 if continued, and about the responce after 9/11 I thought everyone did the best that they could do, firefighters, police, civilians ect, all pulled together after the terrible tragedy...

I think any country's military should exist only to deter invasion. That would solve many problems.

I'm not going to get into specifics about 9/11 and Israel, because I don't believe you're just curious. I think you're looking for an excuse to sneer at liberals, and I won't give it to you.
