Because we either resonate, or we don't, because we either get brainwashed or we don't... and because, we use association with it and the people, time, experience that we are undergoing at the time we first hear it!

This phenomena is known as earworming. It's when a song gets stck in the thoughts of the listener and often unconsciously repeats itself when a certain trigger happens- the time of day, the situation you were in is repeated... It depends heavily on the person, and around 1% of people aren't affected at all.
This is to do with the audial cortex, which controls all audio. Wen you listen to a piece of music, it makes an imprint of the song for reference. Short, simple, catchy or repetitive tunes are more likely to be recalled than any others. Often the person usually makes an unconscious distinction between the song and a situation or memory, and when this trigger happens it is recalled.
For example everytime I go to a certain nightclub, the song True Faith goes around in my head, because this is where I met oneof my best friends when I was doin kareoke of this song. And she's a massive New Order fan, this being one of her fave songs.

Like your name Firefly...cute. Anyway, I think it's because when you heard kind of coincided with your thought processes. Do you get what I'm saying? Like it is a musical representation of rate and way in which your brain is currently thinking. I think if you want to stop it, you will have to listen to lots of other music, so your brain will find a new song to latch on to while it's doing it's job. lol ... How do they come up with these songs? Well, in the case of that song, I believe Nelly said that Timberland had the beat down and they just started jamming... and spitting lyrics on top of it and it worked.
For her song "I'm like a bird", for which she won a Grammy, she says she just sat down and it one day in exactly 20 minutes. Now, that song... I could not stop playing in my head.
Random: Are you good at math? Do you have any musical talent? Have you ever tried to write songs? People who have songs playing in their heads tend to be gifted in math and also have a gift for music.

Anything that's catchy, in either a good or bad way, tends to get stuck in my head. Either that, or the last song/tune I heard stays with me, sometimes for hours.
Sometimes I even get dialogue from films or programmes I like stuck in my head, especially ones I remember from my childhood. The fact I liked the films/programmes when I was younger probably resonates in my long-term memory makes me more likely to remember them when I hear them again later, sometimes years later!

Because people like me hum and whistle annoying tunes to see how many people we can get to hum them through out the day.

Because you chose to let it get stuck there. You're in control...and you have a choice.
