Congrats on buying a car together! That is certainly a commitment, and suggests that you two intend to be together for some time.

But no, it's not marriage in the lesbian world.

MARRIAGE is marriage in the lesbian world, and no gay American should settle for less, just because some anti-gay people tell them to.

At the moment, the only place in the country you can get legally married is Massachusetts, but we are working on it. Hopefully, by the time you have that car paid off, gay marriage will be legal across the country.

Nope, not married. But consider two things. If you financed it under both names you are both legally liable for paying off the loan. If you registered under both names you both are legally liable for anything that happens to you, the car and anyone else. That is why they generally advise gays to have one person buy the care and register the car and insure the car. The other person can be an occassional driver. This way if something happens disasterous - you will only have one person in the partnership effected and you can buy another car, avoid legal liabilities etc for the other person.

No... buying a car with someone is far from marriage. It simply means you both have a large financial responsibility for the next 60 months.

Um, well, I would think so. Joint ownership is grounds for common law marriage in many states, so if people and law makers weren't so idiotic you would be "married". But if you are a lesbian, shouldn't you know how you and your peers feel about it?

I think you are probably engaged. Marriage equals owning a cat together.

I dont think so, because me and my bf are moving in together and I dont consider us married. I even know heterosexual couples that have cars, live together, share bank accounts, even with kids! and are still not married! So I dont think so, but its a huge step in your commitment together! Im happy for you girls! Be proud! its people like you that make homosexuals seem less like whores, and more like committed people!

Congratulations on the car! I know I felt so proud when my g/f and I opened a joint checking account. It feels good to see our names together on a legal document.

Married, naaa, but good luck.

Hardly. Wishful thinking on your part though but joint ownership does not a marriage make.

It would mean divorce if you both want to drive. You can hash it out though.
