I would use a bigger nail what size nails are you using? 10 penny? 9 Penny? Calcium won't do much to help but if you buy the galvanized version it may help with the rust.
Just kidding
you don't have to use polish but you can use something called a nail hardener, you can purchase it at the drug store

I know you don't want polish, but I always find that a clear, cheap nail-strengthener such as "Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails" works WONDERS for my nails. Also, I have found that taking a multivitamin in addition to calcium works. Finally, make sure you keep them moisturized with some type of oil (such as vitamin E) to keep them from breaking.

hard nails and fast growing hair are both attributes related to the amount of testosterone in your system. Believe it or not, working out and eating a well balanced diet will do wonders. There is no quick fix though, but the healthier you are the healthier your nails will be.

Gelatin capsules help. But the best thing is to eat more protien. Meat, eggs, peanut butter. Protien makes you heal faster and makes your hair and teeth stronger and grow faster. I had the same problem and now my nails are hard as a rock.
