Go to your local Barnes & Noble, there are actually books out there that have some cool ideas.

My office used to (I say this in past tence because I now work for myself) have a monthly themed luncheon...we also would have little contests between departments...fun ones. Like putting trivia about the company in the newsletter and offering a prize...let the department with the least right answers foot the bill for the prize, or allow more casual days.
We even had cubical decorating contests...everyone entering would pitchin a $5.00 "entry fee" which would be used to make up a cool gift basket for the winner!!
We had PJ days that was cool because we didn't have customers/clients that actually came into our offices.
We had "Dilbert Days" where we all would decorate our cubicals with "Dilbert" themed stuff.
Icecream socials...where we would actually have Coldstone Creamery come in and catered the whole deal. Loads of fun!!

I would say make sure the lines of communication are always open and working well. For me, there is nothing more annoying than when people can't talk to each other, making work impossible.

If you are having issues with that, think of a game where certain people can be in teams and need to communicate to win. Make it simple so it doesn't burn up too much time, but realize it will benefit everyone.

have a chinese polyana. you wrap things that you got as gifts (ex candles, calanders, bubble bath, tee shirts, books you've already read etc..) they have to be in wrapping paper so no one can see them. then with a complete deck of cards, go around the table and pass them out until they are all gone. the dealer should get the last card to make it even.with another complete deck of cards the dealer begins to flip the cards one by one. if you have a card, you get to chose a gift to unwrap. however, if you see someone else with a gift that you may want, you can take it from them. do this until all of the gifts are gone. its guaranteed fun for a nice lunch hour

How about a basketball hoop over every garbage can? Put a fridge and microwave in every dept then gut out the lunchroom and put in a pool table.

Some companies around here setup friendly competitions between dept's - soapbox derby, softball. We had an Oktoberfest party at my work - they had Non-alcoholic beer for us to drink - that made it tough to go back to work tho :)
