If you have a sore hot neck, it could be either a sore hot neck or birdflu. I jest!
If the feeling is muscular put some ice on it, if it is restricting movement it may be you need to visit a chiropractor. More than that see a doctor.

If it's not sunburn, then the hotness might very well be inflamation from an injury. Did you strain a muscle or hurt your neck in some way?
Do you have any other symptoms? Fever? If fever, then go to the doc.

sun stroke: Feeling a little sick / dizzy headachy and tired
sun burn: just a pin no other symtoms
which ever it is it should be loads better in a few days and u shouldnt worry, go to the docter if it contineus
also always put aftersun on itl take the sting out and hopefully turn u a nice golden brown

An over extended muscle or what some would call a kink. Heat and slow stretching is what you need. Try a hot shower it usually works for me, but remember slow, one directional stretches, do not roll your head, it only makes matters worse.

could be you slept funny or cracked youe neck with out knowing i do this a lot deep heat rub from the chemist is good i use that

if you've been in the sun the you've got burnt try putting some moisturiser onit then get some after sun in the morning.
