I am pregnant and I have seen on the news and in readings that it is not good at all. All can tuna doesn't matter what kind is not good at all, says one of the latest news that scientists prove. Any amount of mercury is dangerous for a little one I believe and we are bigger and have our vital things developed we can handle it. Have you ever heard the saying you are dying once you are born I believe this is relevant to what I believe.

They used to say no more than like 1 can of tuna per week...and then they changed it to some kinds of tuna are harmful, but some certain kind is ok....NOW, they changed it to NO amount of tuna (or fish with mercury) are good at all and to avoid it at all costs!! Dont risk it...it is only 9 months out of your life....just skip the seafood and go for something else!

Fish and all kinds of seafood can be dangerous because of the mercury within them, even for those not pregnant, but it would have to be in REALLY LARGE quantities to hurt you. When talking about you and your little one, yes the tuna should be restricted, but I don't think it needs to be eliminated. Almost all doctors will tell you it is okay to have occasionally, as one woman mentioned, no more than 1 can per week which is what I've heard, too. You have to remember to not always trust everything the media says. They like to scare us, and sometimes it is unnecessary. For everything you do or eat when pregnant there are a bunch of theories for and against it- pregnancy is just controversial in that sense! Do what you feel in your heart is best for your body and your baby, and I'm sure everything will be fine. If you are THAT worried about mercury, you should be concerned about other things too- like meats that are full of hormones, and fruits and vegetables that are not organic. Tuna and other fish have their downsides, but they are also an excellent source of nutrients. Good luck!

I definitely would stay away from the list of sea foods that are considered "suspect" while you are pregnant... if you care about giving your unborn child the best possible beginning, then you should have the discipline to become a veritable "health nut." Your body is most "at risk" during this time, so I'd take the time to consult a nutritionist as well. I'd stay real "macro" in my dietary choices for the next months of your pregnancy, and if you intend to breast feed, the baby, I'd even curtail my intake of certain foods then as well... again, I'm not a nutritionist, but I can tell you that some foods may taint your breast milk so it is unpalatable for the baby's sensitive taste buds. Your desire to research this is indeed laudable and I encourage your continuing circumspection of all the issues surrounding pregnancy... being forewarned is sheer empowerment, and you'll fair ten times better by keeping a vigil on all these things. Just don't let yourself get consumed with worry... that'll defeat the purpose of the exercise. Good Luck.

I would stay away from any fish while you are pregnant. It can cause problems and even still born if you ingest to much mercury, also stay away from honey......
Personally thinking if you are pregnant wouldn't you want to do what ever was in the best interest of the baby before it comes because in a sense it is already here, you are just carrying it inside not outside...
I had enough scares while I was pregnant with my children, I wasn't willing the risk to see if any of those things were really true, so I stayed away from them so that I could give my babies the best fighting chance in this world, cause their life started inside me and what I ate affected them....

All I can say is, I've always eaten tuna, used it to make meals... I've probably never personally had more than a can a week. I'm on baby #6, and none of mine have had any adverse effects from anything....

As with everything in life.. a little moderation goes a long way!!

I believe it was on the American Pregnancy Association website that I read not to eat more than one can of tuna a week. However, if you can avoid eating any tuna, why not do so?

tune eats food that contains mercury so after time it accumlates to dangerous levels. so long as you eat tuna that comes from fish that lived less than 5 years you are safe.
this can be done by contacting any health food organization. I suggest Dr Williams as he offers safe tuna by mail

There are certain types of fish you should avoid while pregnant and then some you can eat in moderation while pregnant. Here is a list of things to avoid while pregnant:shark, swordfish, sea bass, tilefisht, and tuna steaks. These are safe to eat: wild pacific salmon, farm raised trout, farm raised catfish, fishsticks, summer flounder, croaker, mid-Atlantic blue crab, and haddock. these are ok for ONE SERVING PER WEEK:CANNED TUNA, mahi mahi, eastern oyster, blue crab from the gulf of mexico, lake whitefish, blue mussels, cod and pollock.
