Australia and America are so close in every way eg values, culture, language, customs, laws etc...
Why don't they just join to make one gret super nation?

I agree. My girlfriend did her residency there. All of her Aussie friends are stand up people.

For one thing, we would probably have to accept their official head of state, which always happens to be the same British royalty we kicked out of here two centuries ago, and who are no doubt still somewhat prickly over the Declaration of Independence. You kinda make America seem like a needy girlfriend here, insisting on marriage, when our countries are doing just fine sleeping together occasionally. Let's just be friends -- and no, they can't move in with us either.

Well, practically I suppose it would be hard to convince folks to do it. Independence and all that.
Also we are both very well-established, with our own governmental systems etc.
Our two nations are very geograpically distant, tho that isn't such a barrier in this technological age.
I guess I'd have to ask what the great benefit would be to take such a drastic step.
Would be great not to have to wait another year or two for my Wollemi Pine!

A bridge is being built to connect the two as we speak. Or not. Anyway, one of the values we share is that we are both fiercely independent..so I doubt there could ever be a merge.
Still, I would LOVE to have a pet wombat...

The distance involved, and the fact that they have some difference in governmental tradations. But the two are great allies, and its not a bad idea.

i don't think that will work. australia is a continent itself, while america is in between north and south america continent.
then, australian would not want that to happen. from what i've heard they just love to visit america for travel & leisure. i have many friends lived there and loyal to their country. plus "queen elizabeth" would not approve of it, she loved her "down under" too much.

I like my mates down under. Why not?
Okay, actually it'd be weird, but I do like the Aussies. Of course, I like the Kiwis too, and from what I've been told, they don't really like each other.
