I've also driven from SD to Cabo. It's about 11hundred miles. I did something like 8 hrs the first night, stopping in Guerro (half way point), and then 6 or 7 the next day. However I stopped in Todos Santos which is about 45 min north of Cabo.
Good roads, keep an eye on the gas. Lots of stations, but ya never know when one has run out and you're S.O.L.
Nice drive, but I don't think I'd do it again.

I drove to La Paz from San Diego last year and the roads were good. I did it in the dry season ... but sometimes the rains (like now) will cover the roads in the arroyos. They have been working on bridges over them. There are no shoulders so watch the trucks and buses.

I took three days because things are spread out there and I didn't want to drive at night (not a good idea in Mexico). I'd guess another day to Cabo.

Don't forget insurance ... you don't want to be in Mexico without it
