I'm surprised that people often complain about Tom Cruise's acting talents, his portrayal in Magnolio was superb and won him a well deserved Oscar nomination and I quite liked him in Eyes Wide Shut, too, even if he did have to play a somewhat subdued character. Vanillia Sky was very good, too.

Does his international superstar status make him a target for such baseless claims?

it's not that he's a bad actor, it's that people have lost respect for him because of how he judges other people's lifestyles. i think he's full of it and thinks too highly of himself.

I have disliked Tom Cruise since TAPS, Risky Business and All the Right Moves. In his movies, he always portrays the characters as know-it-all blow hards. And since his recent stupid behavior about his beliefs and seemingly svengali like hold over Katie Holmes, now I know why I've never liked him. Blech!!

I think that some people have turned against him because of his religion (even though most people have no idea what scientology is). I love Tom Cruises' movies and I always have, except Minority Report.

i think he's a decent actor but he does tend to play the same types of roles every time. i don't particularly like him personally from the image he portrays in interviews, etc. but his acting isn't that bad.

i don't think he's a bad actor but i don't agree with his lifestyle or the way he judges other people for living their lives their own way. his way might be right for him but he shouldn't force it down anyone else's throat. i pity the people he tries to control who don't have enough sense or strength to remove themselves from under his thumb.
