The Longest word in the english language is over 1,000 letters long but its a chemical substance so I highly doubt that it was the longest word in the english language.

Lady you is well out of date! (It ctually means to estimate something as worthless by the way)

If you limit it to the Oxford dictionary then it is (Excuse the spelling, it's been a while!)
Pneumonoultrascilicovolcanoconiosisis - terribly spelt - it should have 45 letters and 47 in plural form - it is a lung minors disease. If you include chemical compounds etc it goes right up to around the 90's!!!

Look the word up for te proper spelling!!!

The longest word in the English language is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilico volcanoconiosis. This word is 45 letters long and it is defined as a lung disease often contracted by mineworkers. I've split in 2 as it would not stay on the screen as one word, but it is meant to be one word.

It depends which dictionary you look up.
This is actually from Websters online dictionary (American)
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis but it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in it being a definitively legitimate candidate.
