All of my children are mixed(black and Mexican). For my oldest son it took about a year for him to get even a little bit dark, whereas my 2nd son took like 6 mos and my youngest is 16 mos old and looks white. So,it varies. My Husband's mom is half white ,so my 3rd son could be pulling from her side.It depends on genes and how much they are outdoors. As they get older and are outdoors more they darken up a lot more.

I know some mixed heritage people who have very light skin tone and reddish hair, I don't think that is so unusual. I have 2 nieces and a nephew all have the same white mother and black father, but all three have very different skin tones and they also have different hair texures. Nature is a wonderful thing!

It depends, as not all babies born to mixed couples will change skin tones. Look at Derek Jeter. His father is African American and his mother is Caucasian and he looks tan, but not dark.

Why is it important waht shade of skin your baby has? Black, white or purple this is your baby. I am dark skinned, my husband white, never did what shade of skin they would have matter.
In any case, even if they are white skinned with a mixed heritage they will get racism if its a problem. Whether the prejudice comes from people with dark skin as well as white.

My friend's daughter started to darken at about 6 months. She's a year now and a beautiful Mocha tone.

My daughters darkened up about 6 months after birth. Now that sun plays a factor, they are much darker. I think it's a lifelong change.
