So I am 23 and I am taking about 9 units (3 classes) per semester.

I go to college part time because I work 40 hours a week.

I have another 2.5 years left, I will graduate when I am 25.5 years old.

My husband and I planned to start a family next year. We have been together for 5 years.

I was planning on not going to school anymore so I can have children.

Now people are telling me that I will regret leaving college.

But I don’t want to have children and go to school at night.

And I can’t quit my job to go to school full time, and I LOVE my job and I don’t want to leave.

I can’t work part time.

We own a house that will be paid off in a year, and we don’t need a large income.

We make about $70,000 a year together.

I am devastated that if I continue college, I will have to wait another 3 years to have a baby.

I want to relax and enjoy life, but college and work stress me out to where I want to cry.

What do I do?

ur so young!! Wait the 3 years, u'll still be in ur mid-20's, thats young. Finish college, that way u'll be able to have a better career. Quitting college would be the biggest mistake of ur life. A lot of woman don't have children until their late 30's, so u still have plenty of time. U want to enjoy urself while ur young. If u have a baby, thats the end of ur freedom

You're so young! Why the rush? You are already in college, and you're already stressed. You have no idea how much more stress a child is going to add to your life.

You're thinking about right now, instead of what's RIGHT right now.

Think ahead for a moment... What if yoour husband lost his job, or had some kind of disability from an injury that threw you into the working field. All of a sudden, you would have no degree, a baby, and an invalid husband. If you had a degree, though, you could manage.

I know you want a baby, but you have to think about the here and now. What kind of situation would that put you in if you had a baby this year? What kind of financial burden would that be? When you have a baby, you are looking at money for childcare (about 150-200 dollars a week), formula (about $50 a week), diapers (about $60 a week), toys (about $40 a month), pictures (about $50 a month for the first year of a baby's life), and sleepless nights. Try to compound that with working and school.

I wasn't able to go back to school until my son was six. I had him when I was nineteen, and I thought that someone would take care of me. Even with married couples, though, trust me, that gets old for the bread winner. If I had it all to do over again, I would have finished school, and then I would have had a baby.

I know it's not what you want right now, hon, but when you look back at it later, you'll know that you made the best choice.

You are so young... trust me, there's time to do it all, just maybe not all at once. My own personal decision would be to finish school now and wait on the baby. You don't have to wait until you are completely finished; you could start trying to conceive a half year or so before you're due to finish. Even if you got pregnant right away, you'd be done before the baby came (it'd be more tiring that life is now, but like I said, you're young!)

But in the end only you can decide what your priorities are. If your heart wants the babies more than the degree, you can go back to school later. It's hard to go back after you've been gone awhile, but people do it all the time.

I've been there sweetie. I was pregnant while in college (though I was not working until the end of the last term of college). It's frustrating. Make a list of pros and cons. I chose to at least get an Associate degree before the baby was born. I crammed a lot of school in at the end to finish before I gave birth. I then decided to go back to get a Bachelor degree, but ended up pregnant again. I am working full time, went to school part time, and I take care of my son. It was way too hard, so I decided to leave school and go back when I'm ready. Life shouldn't be as hard as we make it. Do what's in your best interest...if you do not need the education right away to advance in your career, then hold off on school. If it's possible to go to school and leave your job, in order to get yourself a better career (which it sounds like you are happy where your at), then by all means do that. Babies take time, and patience, and lots of love. Make sure you're not spreading yourself too thin! Good luck to you, whatever you decide.

Well put it this way, you are 23, that is plenty of time to wait for a baby. You are still young, live your life to the fullest! I know a lot of girls from back when I was in high school that got pregnant and messed up their future! If you are stressed, see about taking some time off from work to clear your head. School is very important. I highly recommend you go to school. You will have a better job and you will be able to say that you did something with your life!

I'm 24. I understand wanting a baby. Can you take some classes from home? If so, find out which ones, and take all the other ones within the next year if possible. Then, when you're done with those, start trying to conceive and register for at-home classes to finish up your degree. Stay at your job until you're too pregnant to continue; then stay home, relax, enjoy life and your precious baby.

It's not impossible to take classes with a little one.. just hard!! Depends on how much you want each.. Sounds like some talking to family and friends that know your situation may help. Use them as sounding boards.... and don't forget to talk to hubby about it..

I started a family at 18, and now am due with baby #6 (same hubby the whole time, by the way!!), and am only just starting college classes online!! Maybe there is an online resource that you could finish with, the schedule is MUCH more flexible!!

Good luck!!

I have a four month old and have two online classes and one campus class for the fall. See if you can do it online. The only things about online classes is that you don't get to hear all the great stories in certain classes say like psy and not much interaction. When my baby is 2 I plan on putting her in the daycare on my college campus for a couple of a hours while I go to class. Good luck...hope everything works out.

Have you thought about going to school online? Or how about going in the morning and working at night? Just because you start a family doesn't mean that you have to give up your other dreams. Do what you think is best. You can always go to college after kids, it might be a little harder, but you can start from where you finished. I am about to go to college and I have a one year old daughter and one on the way. But I have chosen the option of going online because I want to be home with my daughter. So, think about all thoes options. So you want to have a career or do you want to raise your kids? But remember, you can do both though.
