My ex-boyfriend punched my front door, it is punched all the way through but there isn't a complete hole. Any suggestions on how to fix this without replacing the whole door? Here are some pics of the inside and outside of the door, they were taken with my camera phoen so the quality isn't that good. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a387/amandalt823/Door-Outside.jpg

More importantly than the broken door -

Are you finished (in relationship) with this guy? Forever???
I sure do hope so - your punched in head won't be as easy to repair, if you're not . . .

The gals who answered before me, have steered you well - and I'm certain you shall get lots of good suggestions, from here on.

Best wishes to you - be safe, and take care

I would go to Home Depot and purchase a veneer wood skin like the kind they put on kitchen counter tops. Spread a good adhesive for wood that can be spread with a roller on the door and on the underside of the veneer then put dowels on the door and place the veneer over them. Remove one end and make sure air pockets are removed as you press the veneer to the door. trim off edges with a router or utility knife and framers square.

The real solution is to replace both the door and the boyfriend. A good metal door provides better insulation with a good threshold as well as more security to keep the boyfriend out.
A restraining order for the boyfriend is in order and you have the proof with the damaged door.

You can buy a putty that you spread on the hole, then sand down with sandpaper and paint over. There should be some in the paint section of wal-mart or some such store. If you go to lowe's or home depot, be sure to ask someone where it is because they are so FULL of products you'll never find it! Make sure to press any wood sticking out in as far as you can before puttying it, and you may want to sand it down if it's sticking out also. You can putty a dent, you cannot putty something sticking out, so make sure it's not.

You will want to replace the door. And hopefully make him pay. If your door was that weak for an exterior door, you really should get a solid core door or steel (like others have said) The problem with just filling it in is that it will eventually break out and you'll have hole again.

If he was able to punch a hole through your door, unless he studies martial arts, I would replace the door with something more substantial. Theives could do the same thing and take all your stuff.

cut out the bad spot and put a window in, or a really high kitty door, get a new boyfriend who is a carpenter to fix it for you. If it is a really cheap door then you should probably just try to get another one somewhere, or get some wood glue or putty and sandpaper and paint and try to fill in the broken spots.

You should 1st consider replacing the door for security reasons.

That being said, you can put a wood filler over the hole and paint the door.

If your front door can be punched through with one hit you may want to consider investing in a better door(Steel Reinforced). Especially considering how that hole got there.

fill hole with wood putty this may take several layers to build it back out to flush with the rest of the door. Then sand smooth

Take the idiot ex to small claims court and have HIM replace it and pay for all of your court costs. That would be the most cost-effective. Good Luck!
