y is it calld "doctor of philosophy???" wats da philosophy in it???...
n if its doc of philosphy....then it should've been DPh...dont ya think?...

PhD is short for "Philosophiæ Doctor" which is latin. Translated into English it is "Doctor of Philosophy".

PhD means doctor of philosphy. As it is the abbreviation for the Latin "Philosophia Doctor" so it is written as PhD rather than DPh!
Similarly Doctor of Medicine and Surgery is written as MBBS rather than DMDS!!
Philosphers take lot of time to research and understand different ideas,beliefs and theories concerning a subject so master in any field can be awarded with PhD degree.
But beware of philosophizing anthing as it is a derogatory word!

Doctor of Philosophy... I'm getting mine in Microbiology and Biochemistry.
Why is it called Philosophy and not microbiology, etc? It's because PhD's are for people that can think for themselves. Its for people that have alot of logic and rational to answer questions and solve problems that before has no answers, hence the philosophy
