The packers beat the bears, not the lions.

probably not. most bears are located in temperate regions (of which most of africa is not), so its questionable as to if there were EVER any bears in africa. Aside from that, lions and bears are two essentially different animals. Lions hunt or scavenge carcasses, whereas bears are omnivorous and eat berries, fruits, and vegetation as well as the occasional fish or scavenged carcass.

In other words, even if there were once bears in africa, they probably wouldnt have come into too much contact, and they certainly wouldnt be competing.

Unless youre a creationist. In that case, I guess God just decided that bears wouldnt look cool in Africa... and thats okay too I guess... -scoff-

I don't think that there were ever an species of Bear that livd in Africa. Most Bears live in cooler climates like in Alaska, Europe, North America, China etc...
Also, there is more easily caught food sources for Lions so that they would never bother with Bears.

There once were bears in Africa, but it wasn't lions that exterminated them - it was (as usual) we humans. And I'm not lion.
