I guess if I have to ask maybe I shouldn't get one. But then again I don't think I would regret it, I'm very liberal and have always wanted one I've even known for 5 years now what I want. Maybe I just dont do it because I'm afraid it will hurt. What do you think?

Tattoos do hurt, but not as bad as you might think. It is no worse than getting a shot as it starts, no worse than road rash half way through, but then your nerves shut off and you feel just vibration on the skin.

But think carefully. Are you willing to care for it (keeping your skin in good condition and out of the sun to prevent fading, and if it does fade, willing to pay for touch ups)? Are you willing, instead, to put it on skin that doesn't easily sag or is exposed to the sun often (which, ironically, are the more sensitive spots)? Will you regret it down the road (aka a boyfriend whom you broke up with and now want nothing to do with, or a trend that falls out of fashion)? Will it prevent you from getting the career you have your eyes set on?

I've had my tattoo for over a decade now, and have kept it in good condition and on my ankle (a sag-free area, and out of the sun), but even so, it is fading some, beginning to blur, and could stand to have a touch-up. It's not going to look as pretty and vibrant as when you first got it. But it will still be a part of you.

In the end, it's your choice, but weigh the pros (the added beauty, the quality of the artwork, the sheer coolness of it) against the cons (a lifelong dedication to it, both in upkeep in skin care and touchups, and it being stuck on you whether you like it or not anymore). Rememer that tattoo removals still leave a scar, should you ever change your mind, and are considerably more expensive than a cover-up. (a $50 tattoo will cover up what a $1000 procedure will scar over with plain old skin).

tattoos are now kind of overrated cause it seems everyone has them. But, i have two and i love mine. I'm 25 and I already have plans for two more. They are in discrete enough places where I can cover them if necessary. If you have wanted it for five years, I'd say do it. Unless you think you'll regret it. I know i will never regret it cause I'm not getting anything crazy. I got my aquarius sign and I have a Kanji (japanese writing) symbol that says "sisters". My two sisters both have it. You have to choose something not frivolous like... a rose or something. unless you love roses. haha. see what i mean? My next tattoo will be a cross, and then a kanji symbol for "hope" and for "family". things that are important to you you probably will less likely regret. oh yea, about it hurting... my first one on my hip did not hurt (annoying, yes), but my second one on my foot. OUCH!!! while i was getting it i decided i would NEVER get another tattoo cause it hurt so bad. but, haha. im ready again. It depends on the person, but it mostly feels like a cat scratching a sunburn.

It is normal to be nervous about the pain of getting a tattoo but unless you are positive that you want one then you shouldn't do it. The fact that you have known what you want for 5 years does, however, leave you with a better chance of not regretting it. I thought long and hard about my tattoos and I had my first one for 6 years before I got my second one and I don't regret either of them. You have to be sure though that it is what you want before you get one!!

If you really, really want it, get it. If the pain aspect is what's holding you back, talk to a few people with tattoos, get an idea of their pain threshold (to compare to your own) and ask what it felt like.
I have one that I had wanted for almost 10 years before I got it and I love it more than I thought I would. Personally, it felt like someone was scratching me over and over and it didn't hurt afterwards.

Its totally up to you. I have 2 and i love them both, but it took me sometime to make sure that was what i really wanted because a tattoo will always be there. Also i can't describe the pain because everyone's pain level is different. Also you want to make sure that the tattoo shop is clean. But if a tattoo is something that you really want them go for it!!!

I have a couple and I love them. My advice is to take your time and really think about what you want. It took me almost a year to decide what my first one would be because I knew it would ALWAYS be there! I also have both of them where I can cover them easily if I need to.

Do you want to have it on your body when you are 60 and wrinkly? Will it be easy to hide for your job, or future job? If you answered yes to both of these, then consider it further. If you answered no to either one, don't get a tattoo.
