No, they are not, although their eye sight isnt very good at all. They are typically herbivores and eat a wide variety of foods, this is species dependant. They are technically not worms even though the name would suggest otherwise, but thats why you cant always rely on common names. They are a "caterpillar" or larvae of several types of moths including silk worm moth for one.

They are not blind. They just have this odd habit of balancing on their back legs and reaching out as they look for that next piece of food that makes them look as if they are.

From: Wikipedia:

The geometer moths or Geometridae are a family of the order Lepidoptera. A very large family with around 26,000 species of moths. The name Geometer (earth-measurer) refers to the means of locomotion of the larvae or caterpillars. Equipped with claspers at both ends of the body, a caterpillar will clasp with its front legs and draw up the hind end, then clasp with the hind end and reach out for a new front attachment. The impression that it is measuring its journey is inescapable. The caterpillars are accordingly called loopers, spanworms, or inchworms.

From Ohio State University:

Both fall and spring cankerworms feed on a wide variety of trees including apple, ash, beech, elm, hickory, linden, maples and oaks. The elm spanworm attacks elms, hickory, ash and oaks as well as a variety of other broadleaf trees. The linden looper is common on basswood, linden, apple, maples and oaks and other trees.
