I'm terrified of spiders. Last night, my dad was giving me a driving lesson, and as I was pulling of parking, a spider dropped down, right in front of my face. I took my foot off the brake, realized what I had done, put my foot back on the brake, tried to put it into park, accidentally put it into reverse, tried again, finally got it into park, opened the door and tripped cutting my foot on the door.

I can barely control myself when there is a spider around, I don't even know why I do it or why I am afraid because I know there are no poisonous spiders where I live.

Is anyone else afraid of spiders? How did you get over that fear? Any ideas on how I can get over mine?

yes I have arachnaphobia, and I'm exactly like that I freak out when spiders are around. One night I was sitting on my computer and this big spider dropped down from the ceiling and landed on my hand as I was typing, It was so scary! I never got over spiders but I'm a little better about them. My dad made me kill the spiders because he wanted me to overcome my fear of them. It really worked because I don't scream or anything like that when I see them! So my advice is to start by kil ling them! :)

I am afraid of them. I have not gotten over it. Maybe you could go to a zoo, nature center, pet store, etc. & learn more about them. Maybe understanding more about them will make you less frightened of them. Or you could consult a hypnotist. My co-worker used a hypnotist to quit smoking & it worked for her. I hope your dad is not too hard on you about the driving thing. Sometimes when a bee is coming towards my open car window I get scared but if you are in traffic & cannot pull over you kind of just have to deal with it. Better to have a spider or bee on you for a few seconds than to get in an accident.

Well, one thing you must consider. Are you more afraid of a spider or getting killed in an autoaccident? When in doubt, revert to the most dangerous fear first.

You have to force yourself to interact with them in a safe controlled environment. Getting one as a 'pet' that will ALWAYS be in a cage or box is a good idea. Start by just forcing yourself to look at it every day, for a bit longer every day. They might be creepy and weird but they're not that scary eventually.

Eventually through the days you'll be used to looking at it, and seeing them in random places without warning will at least be a bit easier to handle.

i have a fear of tight spaces and i have tojust slow down and if people dont like me going slow then screwem! so i say slowly get use to them, have some one catch one and keep it as a pet and maby once a week visit the person and get close to it and whne you first start to freak out stop where you are breath deep and stay there for some time. i would say about 30 min so listen to music and the like and gradualy get closer.

I hate spiders! I have never gotten over my fear and I dont think I ever will. Everyone has to be scared of something. It could be worse. You could have a fear of going outside (agoraphobia)!

MY MOTHER AND SISTER ARE SCARED STIFF OF SPIDERS. I FOUND THAT AFTER WATCHING A SCARY MOVIE WITH SPIDERS IN IT JUST ADDS TO THE SEVERITY OF THE PHOBIA. ONE WAY I HAVE HELPED MY FAMILY TRY AND GET RID OF THEIR PHOBIA IS TO TELL THEM TO WATCH A SPIDER OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE, WHILE IT IS ON ITS WEB. THEY ARE VERY GRACEFULL AND SKILLED ARACHNIDS. PLUS THEY GET RID OF ALL THOSE LITTLE PESKY CREATURES THAT YOU DON'T LIKE IN YOUR HOUSE. EX.-FLIES,BEES,ANTS. SO WHEN YOU GET READY TO KILL A SPIDER REMEMBER THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO HELP. PUT IT IN A GLASS CUP AND TAKE IT OUTSIDE AND LET IT GO. WE ALL KNOW WE WOULDN'T WANT SOMEONE TO SMASH US BECAUSE THEY THINK WE ARE PESTS!
