I have tried washing them in bleach and it seems to leave a yellow color. Am I using too much, too little, or should I not be using bleach at all?

Believe it or not there is a cleaner for white canvas shoes. I've seen it in the shoe section in Wal-Mart & in most shoe stores. Have used it in the past & my shoes turned out blindingly white!

Try using a stain remover, I find Spotshot works well for getting rid of stains. Good Luck!
