While (some of) the above is technically correct. It does depend on the motherboard but working with a Pentium 3 (it also depends on the OS) but concentrating on the information you have provided so far, you would be lucky to get above 512MB, maybe 1GB but that might be pushing it.

sure you could put in 2gb of ram but you would be wasting money...a Pentium 3 goes ...what 1ghz? maybe? the speed of ur computer is based on multiple things: processor, ram, hard drive buffer, frontside bus. ram is the most common upgrade but your computer as a whole may only be able to go as fast as maybe a 512 upgrade, possibly a 1gb and you could always use the extra ram i guess if you want to multitask but the p3 may hold you bacl the most

its not about the processor being able to handle it the motherboard has a maximum capacity but you probably wouldnt need that much any way if thats what your asking because if you have a large amount of unused ram it can actually slow down your PC.

It isn't an issue with the processor, the amount of ram you can have is based on your motherboard.

shmifty_14 is along the right lines.
The maximum amount of memory that your pc can handle is dependent on the motherboard. The type of motherboard that you have dictates not only the amount of memory that you can use but also the type of memory as well.
Find out what motherboard you have and then google it to find the maximum and type of memory it takes.
Hope that helps.

it depends on the OS windows xp can but rarely can it use it all. also check to see if your motherboard can take it because some motherboards will only take up to certain amount of ram.

if it fits in your motherboard then it doesnt matter. Its as simple as that. you can have 5 megs of ram or 5 gigs of ram.

anything over 512 is going to be pointless for a p3 machine anyway...it wont make the machine faster.
