I am trying to create something using photoshop 7. I want what is on the screen to be a real scale... so if I want it to print as being 1 inch... I want it to be 1 inch on the screen... also I want to be able to make it any bigger than the size of the paper... 8 x 11.5
I have used the rulers and the grid, but it doesn't seem to be a true scale.

I know this is a basic question, so much so that I can't find it in tutorials... Thanks for the assistance.

I know I can change the size of the view... what I want to be able to do is know that if I create something that says it is 1" that it will really print out at 1"

what I found was under, "edit", "properties" then "Units.." and "grid" has to be set to 1 inches and then 1 inch per marker. That was what I found to be the probelm. The default was 0.667 for some reason... I made a 1" line in two direction onscreen and it printed out at 1 inch... Thanks for the input... :)

Add rulers (CTRL + R) to your image so you can see its actual dimensions and to make it easier to see what's happening.
What you see on your screen depends on your screen resolution (maybe 72 or 96 dpi for tube monitors) and the pixels/inch of your image; they have to be the same for the 100% view to be the actual size.

Like another person said, I don't have it loaded up right now, but......

Up at the top menu there is an option that allows you to manipulate the size of the image. (Find "Image->Size") This allows you to increase/decrease the array of pixels and there you can do this in actual pixels or inches, (and probably other metrics!).

After you actually resize the image that way, click on the magnifying tool icon. In this window you have the option to view the image in actual pixels.

Hope this helps...

I don't have the program in front of me, but in the view pull down, you can view it in 100%, or any size you want.
To print, see if your printer program has a tile feature.
Good luck

When you open a new document, set the resolution to the resolution you'll be printing at. It should work (I think).
