Some men have had past experiences that unfortunately colored their perception in subsequent relationships. They're unable to separate the realities of the partner in their previous union from the loving, faithful woman with which they're currently involved. They have not yet recovered from the pain of their past and, as a result, carry with them an overpowering sense of suspicion.

On the other hand, some men are simply responding to the pain of someone close to them. Perhaps they had a cheating parent, friend or family member and are reacting to the pain of the offended partner.
It is also quite possible that they are the offspring a person who had incredibly jealous tendencies that they themselves have unconsciously mirrored.

Other men are just naturally protective of 'their own'. He probably loves you tremendously and, for whatever reason, has an unusual fear of losing you to someone else. Perhaps talking to him and convincing him of your total commitment to him and the relationship will help rid your husband of his fears :).
